Hargate started life as home to one of Tasmania's most respected 19th century builders, so it is no surprise that it is one of Launceston's finest houses. Set high on a hill, Hargate's grand verandahs and balconies afford sweeping views across the valley, town and river.
But it is inside where you will discover Hargate's magic. It is filled with French antiques (many shipped from France by the 
owners), yet perfectly relaxing – enjoy high tea in the drawing room, read a book in the lounge, catch up with work using the free Wi-Fi or enjoy a soak in your claw-foot bath. Each of the three bedrooms is exquisitely furnished and features pillow menus and balcony access. But the highlight would have to be the silver service multi-course champagne breakfast in the formal dining room – a truly memorable start to the day.
