Hobart's quiet Sandy Bay area is noted for fine residences, yet few offer the graciousness of Clydesdale Manor. Built in the late Georgian style – characterised by elegant proportions, minimal ornamentation and generous eaves – the house is listed by the National Trust and the Heritage Council and exudes early 19th century poise from every viewpoint.
But don't mistake history for fustiness. Clydesdale Manor hosts Wayne and Lynne Parkes provide contemporary hospitality in a heritage setting. From the large lounge, where guests can read a book from the library on the leather chesterfield and enjoy a drink before dinner, to the expansive and lavishly planted garden the emphasis is on comfort and panache.
 That theme extends to the seven guest rooms offering a variety of sizes and styles, including a garden spa suite and superior rooms with four-poster beds. All are well equipped and meticulously detailed (we love the rooms with Mount Wellington views). A constantly changing menu is offered in the sun-drenched breakfast room overlooking the gardens. And Lynne and Wayne will happily provide tour, restaurant and events advice, putting the polish on a perfect Tasmanian experience.
