There's a seductive flavour of the Orient about this heritage-listed house across the Derwent River from downtown Hobart. It reflects the many years that its new owners, Jacqueline and David, spent living and travelling in southeast Asia. They and their friendly retired guide dog Tashi Delek (named for the auspicious Tibetan greeting) love to meet people and know how to make them feel at home.
The three gorgeous guest rooms take their titles from the respective views of the Derwent River, Mount Wellington and Bellerive. All are beautifully presented with rich silk fabrics and stunning designer bathrooms (heated floor tiles for cooler mornings). The lounge with its open fire and port decanter is a lovely spot, although in warmer months the grand flower-filled garden is simply beautiful.
There's no need to drive the seven kilometres over the Tasman Bridge into the historic heart of Hobart. Amble down to the quaint Bellerive waterfront and catch the ferry to Constitution Dock or Salamanca Place. Or you could dine on the balcony of the local pub overlooking the marina and watch the yachts pass by. Location: Seven km or five minutes east of Hobart. HEMA RA 54 B4.
Facilities: Three queen bedrooms, each with ensuite (one with free-standing bath), in-room TV, DVD (with in-house DVD library), ceiling fan, heating. Guest lounge (wood fire), breakfast room, outdoor dining area. Full breakfast served.
