Flinders Island - Tasmania
Flinders Island is easily accessible by flights from Launceston (35 minutes) and Melbourne (70 minutes) and is a remarkably interesting place to visit. With a population of about 800 residents it's definitely not busy and features a varied landscape of rich, green farmland set off by the craggy peaks of the Strzelecki National Park. There are plenty of walks and wildlife tours and the locals don't mind a chat with visitors, partly because they're not exactly common.
