Built in the 1860s by German settlers who worked in the early days of the wine industry, the cottage had fallen into disrepair, prompting the hosts to consider restoration. What followed from 2002 was a two-year renovation an inspirational tale in itself. Every tiny detail was thought of, including recreating hand-forged fittings and handcrafting furniture using traditional German methods. Yet Seppeltsfield is not a museum; it is living history meticulously recreated and enhanced by the finest appointments. Relax by the fire that warmed past generations, soak in an antique bathtub looking out over the vineyards and fall asleep in a king-size brass bed cosseted by fine linens.
