This is one of the most charming garden properties we have seen and a highlight of any stay will be exploring the paths that wander through its sensational parkland setting. Included in the Open Garden Scheme, AL-RU Farm is famed for its herbaceous borders, specimen trees and mass plantings of bulbs. This is a rambling country garden full of surprises, making it a pleasure to explore in any season.
Tucked away in a secluded spot is the Garden Pavilion, a retreat inspired by the French provincial style and adorned with antiques. Fluffy doonas, fine linen and a crackling wood fire make this a choice for romantics. Host Ruth Irving is an antiques dealer: ask to see her showroom on the property and lost hours will be spent admiring Ming porcelain and a beautiful collection of French antiques.
For a small group, we suggest the in-house, two-bedroom tower suite and do not miss the opportunity to indulge in pre-dinner drinks in the library followed by dinner. There is always something happening: a new garden being created, Iyengar yoga, or mushroom picking. Guests are welcome to join in if they please – it is all up to you at this enchanting country escape.
