Bloomfield Lodge is our most secluded pick for this edition: the trip by light plane and boat is exciting, the setting mystical and the evenings utterly romantic. It is also a place for people who need a break from everything – here, your only concern is when to swim and what delights the daily menu will bring.
Every tropical rainforest wish is catered for in this paradise, which sits between World Heritage-listed Daintree rainforest on one side and the crystal-clear seas of the Great Barrier Reef on the other. All the sumptuous meals from breakfast to dinner are included in the tariff as are your transfers from Cairns, a guided rainforest tour and a cruise along the Bloomfield River.
The rooms make you want to drop your bag and sigh with pleasure. We love the delicious Honeymoon Retreat (non-honeymooners are allowed in!), a secluded haven of pristine white linen, timber fittings  and views across Weary Bay. As in the other 15 suites, all the essentials are here from a well-stocked minibar and spa bath to day beds for an indulgent afternoon snooze.
Location: A 35-minute flight north of Cairns, followed by a 4WD and boat ride. RA 13 B12.
Facilities: 16 ensuite rooms and cabins (queen or twin beds). Restaurant, bar, library, games room, pool, spa, laundry. All meals, return transfers from Cairns, river cruise and walks included in tariff. Bloomfield Waterfall tours, fishing and massage available.
