With its elegant yet slightly decadent vibe, there is a faint air of the Mogul Empire here: sultry weather, sensuous surroundings and a hint of sexy nights ahead. This beautifully restored Italian Art Deco mansion was built in 1923, during a cane-cutting boom by an Italian immigrant. He poured his heart and soul into the property – even handmaking the beautiful tiles.
The notable painted features highlight the many antiques and collectibles showcased throughout the resort. Classic lamps cast a gentle light over the traditional bed-and-breakfast style bedrooms. With fans whirring above you, the alfresco dining room is an idyllic spot to savour the comforting meals on offer. Noorla's Ceylon Tea Rooms serve scrumptious high teas on the weekends and The Atrium Lounge and Ginger Room are perfect for socialising with other guests.
Ingham is located on Queensland's tropical coast and is only thirty minutes from Australia's largest island national park, Hinchinbrook. Visits to the nearby Tyto Wetlands and 305-metre Wallaman Falls (the highest drop in the southern hemisphere) are a must and tours of the historic Townsville Highland Tunnels showcase the region's rich history.
Location: 110km or 1½ hours north of Townsville, 238km or 3 hours south of Cairns. RA 13 G13.
Facilities: 18 rooms with ensuite or private bathroom, TV. Bar, restaurant and Ceylon Tea Rooms. Pool, lawn volley ball. All meals available. Visit this property's website
