This intriguing B&B draws rave reviews from travel writers – and you understand why on arrival. Mudbrick Manor's eco-friendly design is a labour of love, handbuilt by hosts Ken and Bev Stephens. The setting magnifies its aura: overlooking lush rainforest gardens and towering mountains and nearby to sweeping beaches and Hinchinbrook Island, one of the world's outstanding national parks.
The hand built feel of Mudbrick Manor is unique. Six suites, sleeping up to three people each, surround a lush courtyard with a hand-carved Balinese fountain. The air-conditioned rooms are accented by antiques and collectibles, carefully chosen to harmonise with the building's natural materials. Wide verandahs, shady gardens and cool pool invite you to relax – and maybe talk to the hosts about how the Manor came to be.
Guests have use of a function/entertainment room, a lounge, patio dining area and a
pool. The Manor is a superb base for families or groups of friends to indulge in some fishing, snorkelling or bushwalking on Hinchinbrook Island, a little known treasure that is the tropical counterpart to its southern sister, Fraser Island. Location: 163km or two hours north of Townsville. RA 13 F13.
Facilities: Six suites (each with queen bed, single bed, ensuite, TV/DVD, AC). Function/ entertainment room (large screen TV, DVD, stereo, licensed bar), lounge. Gardens with pool. Full breakfast served.
