Two-thirds of all animal and plant species on the planet live in rainforest, which is easy to believe as you settle into the award-winning Fur 'n' Feathers rainforest sanctuary. From one of five tree houses in private rainforest settings near the Ithaca River or the larger Bower House on the rainforest fringe with valley views, guests can bring out their inner David Attenborough watching the parade of native fauna.
In a sensitive combination of comfort, ecology and privacy, the timber tree houses feature full-length glass that looks out on nature's variety, wood fires for cooler times and fully equipped spa bathrooms. Breakfast on the balcony might be accompanied by the plop of a platypus in the river, a sighting of Lumholtz's tree kangaroo or an appearance by the endangered cassowary. And, of course, the airborne bird life is truly extraordinary.
