As you lie serenely in your hammock in Wiikirri's gorgeous garden, only the wafting aroma of tonight's Sicilian chicken or Moroccan lamb cutlets need remind you of the time of day. You are here to relax or, as wiikirri means in the Ngiyampaa language, to 'sit, stay and live' - and the site seems to have radiated a profound solace since time immemorial.

There are two places for guests. Each has its own entrance but they are connected by The Snug, a cosy communal lounge where you can sip the complimentary port as you browse the library, find a DVD or chat with guests. This set-up makes Wiikirri ideal for couples or small parties. The rooms are brilliantly finished, complete with Raffles chairs and wrought-iron bedsteads. Meals and professional rejuvenation massages are available. A self-contained cabin is planned for those seeking a self-catering experience.

Nearby is the renowned Brisbane Valley Rail Trail, which is superb for cycling or walking (look out for the 70-metre tall Blackbutt eucalypts). Cellar doors and farmers markets complete the local colour.
