You will see more rainforest life during one late-afternoon relaxing on the verandah at Wait-a-While Retreat with a cooling glass of Chardonnay in hand than in a month of harried bus tours. This astonishing solar-powered eco-retreat is one of the wonders of the Daintree and provides a true rainforest-by-the-beach experience.The Retreat is modelled on a New Guinean long house, with a soaring timber roof and decking that brings the rainforest right to your table. We love the use of timber in the house, which is the largest private dwelling north of the Daintree River. The atmosphere is idyllically relaxed, with airy, open communal spaces for play or relaxation, three huge bedrooms and a pool overlooking the rainforest. Better still, you can even bring your pets with you so that all the family can enjoy the tropical adventure.
Dog-friendly Cow Bay beach is a short stroll through the rainforest and there is wonderful reef snorkelling just offshore. The owners, Kerry and Peter, have lived in the Daintree for many years and are expert guides to all the local secret spots and tours.
