The wheel of good fortuneYou can sleep or entertain or even get married at the very adaptable Wagon Wheels Country Retreat. This classic 1895 country house on Stanwell Tops has a small ballroom, Ye Old Barn for larger functions and plenty of marquee space in the immaculately kept garden. The location – mid-way between Wollongong and Sydney – makes it accessible for travellers from either direction.
Geoffrey Pybus has done an extraordinary job at creating the right mood in each of the homestead’s four bedrooms. Pure romantics will love the honeymoon suite with its blazing log fire – ideal for newlyweds post-reception. There is also the funky Panoramic Loft with dormer picture windows and fireplace, the Fountain Room, which looks over a splashing cascade outside and the Farm Room, with twin single beds for the kids. Wagon Wheels is perfect for kids to explore, with cute alpacas, ponies, horses, donkeys and cows to admire. Guests will enjoy indulging themselves in the grand spa bathroom that looks out over the green surrounds.
The property is surrounded by forest and features marvellous walks to spots like Kelly’s Falls, which you can reach via the back gate. Ask Geoffrey to take you on a tour.
