Villa Gusto
Buckland Valley
(near Bright)
Review by Beautiful Accommodation
Tuscany, Sicily, Calabria? The setting of Villa Gusto could be anywhere in these Italian provinces with its backdrop of mountain views and Italian villa-style garden, complete with fountains, pencil pines and decorative urns. The kitchen garden and orchard also set the scene, while the eight individually styled rooms all carry an Italian theme. How do Cioccolato, Limone and Mellanzane sound for deliciously sumptuous and inviting suites? Yet this tranquil retreat is in the beautiful Buckland Valley, just 7 minutes from Bright – a lot closer than Italy.Everything about Villa Gusto oozes charm and reflects the passions of owner Colin McLaren. As well as being a renowned author (one of his books was made into a movie) and Italophile (Colin hosts foodie tours of southern Italy each September), Colin is a gourmand. He champions local produce and the infl uence of Italians on this corner of Victoria.
Villa Gusto has deservedly become one of Victorian’s most sought-after gourmet escapes. The fi ve-course, ever-changing Italian degustazione menus have been awarded one hat by The Age Good Food Guide and are enjoyed in Villa Gusto’s imposing dining room. Great food, fabulous wine, gorgeous suites and a memorable setting all add up to la dolce vita – Victorian High Country style.

Villa Gusto was the most amazing experience for a wannabe traveller - The food is truly the next best thing to actually being in Italy. The service was fantastic and the host & owner of the villa exceeded all our expectations with his willingness to please
and make our stay memorable. I would go back tomorrow if time permitted but alas I will have to wait... not too long I hope. We are now considering joining the gourmet tour of Italy which Colin McLaren, the owner of Villa Gusto hosts. Forever Grateful

I think I am in heaven! Stunning gardens, exquisite mountain views and a delightful private balcony to enjoy them. My room named "Rosso" is elegantly accessorised with a flush of rouge, stylish antiques and the contrasting crisp white linen has my bed looking sumptuously inviting. After a hearty home cooked breakfast this morning, my taste buds are primed and I'm off to enjoy a five course degustation dinner in the great room. Tables are set with fresh roses and the soft tones of Fablo Concato welcome. The meal is a sensation! Delicate portions of southern Italian inspired gourmet treats accompanied by an excellent wine list. An after diner liquor on the terrace or curl up in one of the luscious chocolate leather couches and digest the experience. Viva the Villa!
