This once-derelict Clydesdale stable dates back to 1848 and has been lovingly converted into a selfcontained, two-bedroom retreat by none other than cooking and interior design TV star Tonia Todman, who runs master classes in the adjoining Highbank farmhouse.
Her attention to detail will take your breath away. The provincial-themed b&b features timber fl oors, wonderful original bluestone walls and exposed beams.
Upstairs, the ‘grooms quarters’ bedroom is furnished with a queen-size antique bed and two cast iron single beds. Downstairs, the ‘blacksmiths’ bedroom has an eclectic mix of furnishings ranging from a pair of original bellows to a wall-mounted kimono, with another queen bed and single, strewn with scatter cushions. Nothing has been forgotten: from hot water bottles with woollen covers to extra blankets, soft luxurious bathrobes and toiletries.
The interesting furnishings flow through to the living area, a peaceful and inviting space with a wood fireplace for winter nights.
The kitchen offers everything you could need, from the silver tea pot and wide selection of teas to the fridge stocked with farm eggs and breakfast provisions. A beautiful, free-standing claw-leg bath is a stand-out feature in the large bathroom.
The Stable has two private deck areas, with a barbecue and outdoor dining area, allowing you to sit and enjoy the beautiful gardens.
