The Kilns
Porepunkah (near Bright)
Review by Beautiful Accommodation
Most would consider the northeast’s old tobacco-drying kilns a photogenic oddity on the picturesque landscape. But Clare and Jim Delany, together with architect Sally Draper, instead saw an intriguing opportunity to transform them into two sophisticated and unforgettable luxury holiday escapes. Set amid a working cattle stud and vineyard, Mount Buffalo and Mount Feathertop loom beyond as magnificent backdrops.
The first to be completed was Cavedon’s Kilnhouse, which was created from two kilns (now two separate raised living spaces) and joined together by a vine-clad terrace. A central “spine” of rooms cleverly links the kilns with the rest of the spacious three-bedroom house and outdoor living areas.
The second house is Chinaman’s Kilnhouse, which features a single kiln with a distinctive “Chinese hat” perched on top. Chinaman’s also has plenty of space, with two bedrooms and various outdoor living options.
You can expect imaginative and sophisticated spaces that work. Think exquisite designer furniture, fabulous artwork, a plethora of art and design books and magazines, huge two-person window seats, wood fires and fabulously equipped kitchens.
If you feel the need to explore, the High Country Rail Trail (for bikes, hikes and horses) runs past the property, and there are numerous cellar doors, cafes, restaurants and ski resorts within easy reach.

We have stayed twice at 'Chinaman's' and are trying 'Cavedon's' for the first time in September. For us to return 3 years running says a lot! Everything you need is there-and what's not to love about heated flooring? As a foodie-I'm in LOVE with the fully
equipped kitchen and have to admit I took numerous photos of those amazing utensils drawers!! The Kilns is the ultimate destination in its own right- not to mention beautiful Bright and surrounds on your doorstep.
