Cinematic island views

In the movie industry, a slate is held in front of the camera to mark the limits of a scene. But that cool, attractive stone has the opposite function at The Wongalinga apartments. At this slate-floored haven on Mission Beach, the scene has no beginning and no end, offering cinemascope vistas of Dunk and Bedarra islands in the azure Coral Sea. And like those who make the movies, you can call for as much or as little action as you like.

The self-contained apartments are designed along tropical plantation house lines, with full-length glass doors that seem to draw the lawn and trees inwards with a mysterious magnetism. Forget crossing roads with arms full of swimming gear - the golden beach is the main feature in close-up, ready and waiting as you relax over a meal prepared on the barbecue. When it's time to cool down, the soothing decor, cane furniture, air-conditioning and ceiling fans are handy. Or an interval by the pool could be what the script requires.

If an action adventure is on the cards, try kayaking, sailing, skydiving or many other 'missions possible', then follow up with a siesta on the green lawn in the shade of coconut palms.
