Birdsong in the hillsThere is something about these hand-built wooden cottages that creates an immediate sense of peace and security. Think sweet-smelling timbers, fresh mountain breezes, crackling fire, bushland views and a delightfully soothing garden to roam at your leisure. Now add the indulgence of chocolates, red roses, sparkling wine and other goodies into your Romance arrival package and the feeling of being generously welcomed to your country retreat is complete.
The owner, Andy MacDonald, built these three cottages (Cottage, Treetops and the Hideaway), bringing all his aesthetic taste and craftsmanship to the task. Each has slate floors, an open fireplace roaring away on cold nights, a full kitchen for preparing your daily breakfast supplies and a private deck to bask in the peace and solitude. The views are painterly shades of green, which are animated by birdsong and meandering wildlife. There is no need to haul in your own supplies here: seafood platters, barbecue packs and other treats are available on request.
Nearby is Norman Lindsay’s historic home and now gallery, Springwood, and the Lindsay Café, which has won a swag of foodie awards. Laid out before you is all the majesty of the Blue Mountains to explore, but forgive yourself if you just put your feet up and relax.
