Sophisticated designs with a twist

The Kilns is actually three unique retreats, each of which could have stepped off the pages of an international architecture magazine, yet each features a particularly local twist. In fact, we loved these amazing houses so much that one of them graced the cover of our last edition of Beautiful Accommodation.

Cavedon’s was the first to be built and its iconic twist is the two traditional tobacco-smoking kilns incorporated into the design of the exquisite three-bedroom house. Today, one is a casual living room, the other a formal lounge, joined together by a clever ‘spine’ of bedrooms on one side and a vine-clad terrace on the other. Chinaman’s features one kiln and is named after both the conical hat shape of the kiln and also the nearby swimming hole, which is a pleasant place to soak on a warm day.

New to the collection is The Sorting Shed. Loosely modeled on a large concrete shed where tobacco was sorted after being dried, this two-storey creation features three stunning bedrooms downstairs and extraordinary living spaces upstairs. Naturally, every room features expansive mountain views.

Whichever you choose, all bear the stamp of interior designer Russell Grainger with high-end designer furniture, a cook’s kitchen, stunning living areas indoors and out, exquisite contemporary artworks and signature floating window seats. You can even arrange for renowned chef Patrizia Simone to run Italian cooking classes at The Kilns.

We have stayed twice at 'Chinaman's' and are trying 'Cavedon's' for the first time in September. For us to return 3 years running says a lot! Everything you need is there-and what's not to love about heated flooring? As a foodie-I'm in LOVE with the fully equipped kitchen and have to admit I took numerous photos of those amazing utensils drawers!! The Kilns is the ultimate destination in its own right- not to mention beautiful Bright and surrounds on your doorstep.
