When it comes to varietal blends, the Blue Grape is a wondrous creation. Take one part magical setting, mix it with the passion of an artist and the creativity of an architect and the result is a divine vineyard escape with a wisp of romance and a dash of indulgence.

But the best part about a stay here is that guests have The Blue Grape to themselves – the hosts live on the other side of the vineyard. Guests share in a sun-filled lounge that offers a crackling fire and a superb collection of artwork – many by artist and host Ulrike Zimmermann.

One way to enjoy the Blue Grape is to come as two couples and have the whole retreat to yourselves. Arrive on a Friday night and have a light European vineyard dinner matched with a glass of Hans and Ulrike's award-winning shiraz. Awake the next morning to wander the vineyard before a sumptuous breakfast. Then set off on winery tours in the McLaren Vale region followed by dinner at one of the many finedining choices nearby. On Sunday, enjoy a wine tasting with Hans and fill the boot with a bounty to share with friends back home.
