On visiting Taabinga Homestead, you may wonder why the verandah disappeared from Australian houses. Like an Akubra brim, it makes things easy on the eyes here when surveying the scene across its mature gardens. This magnificent property was built in 1846 as part of a pastoral station, and it is tempting to imagine cattle folk relaxing in the shade after a day mustering.Outbuildings and workers’ dwellings – The Single Men’s Cottage and The Store – have been carefully maintained, and their modern appointments, such as air-conditioning and fully equipped kitchens, would have been much appreciated in the pioneer days. Ideal for couples or families, the cottages are self-contained. Breakfast baskets, evening meals or fully catered stays can be arranged.
Taabinga guests can join in farm activities, stroll the historic grounds and enjoy the occasional music performance held through the year in the concert barn or homestead sitting room. Nearby is the town of Kingaroy and the Bunya Mountains National Park is within easy reach to explore, with its huge forest of bunya pines, superb views, native mammals and about 120 bird species.

Two cottages: each with two or three bedrooms (various bed configurations), lounge, fireplace, bathroom, kitchen, RC AC. Grand homestead sitting and dining rooms. All meals available by prior arrangement.

235km or 3¼ hours north of Brisbane. IMPORTANT: When visiting Taabinga and traveling via the Bunya Highway, use the turnoff at Stuart Valley Drive and follow the Taabinga signs. The Google Map opposite shows a road that actually does not exist and as such this map just gives a general indication of location, not to be used for navigation.
