Snowy Wilderness Resort
Jindabyne
Review by Beautiful Accommodation
High country heavenIf you want the quintessential high-country experience, Snowy Wilderness Resort is the real deal. It’s a 7200-acre reserve and sanctuary for the wild mountain horses known as Brumbies. Think of Russell Crowe in The Silver Brumby with warm beds and good plumbing. Here, you can don your Akubra hat and Drizabone oilskin jacket, hop on a horse or quad bike, and ride the range.
The Resort’s facilities are magnificent, with options whether you are a party of 10 (try the Homestead) or a couple needing absolute solitude (try a one-bedroom lodge or the cottage). There is also an apartment on nearby Lake Jindabyne. The Homestead is completely in sync with its gorgeous lakeside setting and location. It brilliantly uses local stone and timber to create a wonderfully organic feel with a fire-lit lounge-dining area and bedrooms with tranquil vistas. There is even a stunning marquee available for weddings or events.
All the accommodation is self-contained but no stay here would be complete without sampling owner Justin MacIntosh’s high country cuisine. How about local duck cooked in a camp oven or a breakfast of scrambled eggs infused with black truffles? You can even camp under the stars – a real thrill for the kids.
