If the Royal Mail Hotel is all about contemporary style and innovative cuisine, its sister property 3km away offers a more historic, classic Australian experience.
Nestled at the base of its looming namesake, Mount Sturgeon Estate dates back to the early 1840s and today is a working sheep station with many original buildings restored to offer stylish accommodation.
Mount Sturgeon Homestead can only be described as extraordinary. A grand driveway leads through 70 acres of sweeping grounds and manicured lawns finally arriving at the elegantly restored country mansion.
The views to Mount Sturgeon are amazing, but it’s the house itself that draws gasps – six bedrooms, formal lounge, huge kitchen and informal meals area, four bathrooms – all adorned with elegant antiques and fabulous art. It’s easy to see why this is a prized venue for group getaways, weddings and small corporate retreats.
The other options are the former shearers’ quarters. These beautifully restored bluestone cottages offer the ultimate in country relaxation – plump leather armchairs, wood fires, mesmerising views and intriguing bathrooms (hint: the cottages don’t really need water tanks that big).
Whatever you choose, you can use all the hotel facilities, and complimentary transfers can be arranged for dining at the restaurant at the Royal Mail Hotel.
