This is one of Australia's hidden gems, a truly exceptional experience that takes a select few at a time to partake in pristine nature. Off the Capricorn Coast near Yeppoon, Pumpkin Island is a sparkling jewel nestled within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.Here you will find just five very stylish, eco-friendly self-catering cottages powered by wind and sun, overlooking a crystalline beach. Each accommodates between four and eight guests – with a maximum of 30 on the island. They are fully self-contained, with contemporary flair and also thoughtfully separated from each other.
There is so much to do on this island treasure: harvest oysters off the rocks, fish the rich waters, snorkel or experience the coral reefs from a glass bottom kayak. And of course, there are secluded beaches to wander or the sublime pleasure of gazing at the horizon while whale spotting. Pumpkin Island is wonderful for families, utterly romantic for honeymooners, and a hoot for a group of friends. For overseas guests, this is the kind of unspoilt paradise that will define a trip Down Under.
