‘Classic’, ‘iconic’ and ‘landmark’ are often used to describe the Old Bank B&B in Cygnet, one of Tasmania’s most picturesque towns in the heart of gourmet territory in the Huon Valley.
We agree, but would also add that it’s indulgently luxurious, stylishly renovated and envy inducing. We love its mix of heritage and contemporary. The building was originally a bank, dating back to 1909, but modern touches include fresh, modern bathrooms and free broadband.
Upstairs are three guest bedrooms, each with town or country views. Some of the bathrooms even offer views stretching to the mountains beyond. As lovely as the bedrooms are, we think you will spend most of your time downstairs. The sitting room is gorgeous with plump black leather Chesterfi elds and an open fire, and the garden is a lush year-round place to relax, but we think it’s the incredible Orangery that will really seduce. Spanning the entire north side of the building, this stunning conservatory-style haven features potted dwarf citrus trees and an espresso machine (ask for a cup at any time). It is a great spot to enjoy breakfast, afternoon tea on arrival or a bottle of Tasmanian wine (the list is excellent). To use three more words: we love it.
