Quiet coastal cottageSometimes you need to squirrel yourselves away from the hoi polloi and make room for each other in a tranquil setting. If you need that in the glorious Byron Bay district, then book in for some private seaside time at Oceanstyle. This thoroughly unpretentious cottage is opposite Tallows Beach in the peaceful village of Suffolk Park, about five minutes’ drive all the buzz of Bryon Bay.
Oceanstyle’s design is simplicity itself: a coastal cottage among the trees with a return deck for breakfast or afternoon tea. The interior has been completely renovated with an emphasis on minimising clutter and maximising comfort. There is a big comfy lounge to stretch out on before the plasma TV, a vast bed with a curving wooden bedhead and a well-equipped kitchen for DIY catering. Everywhere the soothing hum of distant waves suffuses the atmosphere like an aural lullaby. Passing into a dreamy sleep has never been easier.
Suffolk Park is a wonderful find in the Byron area: a secluded oasis of sleepy beachhouses and streets that see the occasional passing car. Tallows Beach is just across the road and offers miles of beachcombing prospects. It’s a short stroll for the papers, coffee, a meal and groceries. Relax.
