Take one historic cottage in the heart of Richmond, add a creative owner with innovative design ideas, throw in a gifted architect and it adds up to Number 3: a stunning contemporary retreat complemented by exquisite interior decoration and finishes.
Everything about Number 3 was designed to be discovered and enjoyed. The hidden entry, the surprising ensuite bathrooms, the bedroom suites and the beautiful lounge opening onto a sun-drenched courtyard are just part of the package. They all hint at the surprise to come at the end of the internal walkway – an extraordinary living space with a dining room and an extravagant kitchen. Perhaps the biggest surprise of all is the wonderful morning room featuring walls of glass overlooking the garden, polished terrazzo floors and couches made for sinking into.
Beyond Richmond, the nearby Coal River wineries will need a day or two of serious wine tasting. Hobart is less than 30 minutes away and nearly everything that Southern Tasmania offers is within an hour’s reach. But with such a perfect place to unwind, you would be forgiven for simply staying put. We fell in love with Number 3 as soon as we entered its front door. By the end of our visit, we were smitten.
