Lord of the manorsMudgee is one of those wonderful rural NSW towns with a real heartbeat of civilised culture thumping away at its centre. The town’s valley setting is enticing, the wine scene thriving and the standards of accommodation are sensational. Mudgee’s Getaway Cottages are a prime example with six homes on nine verdant acres in town. The riverside location and freedom to pluck your own vegies from the gardens and collect fresh eggs are a delightful bonus.
The absolute standout is Elington Manor, a 1920s Federation home that has been brilliantly transformed into a dazzling stage for gatherings, celebrations and corporate brainstorming sessions, and a private chef can be arranged. It has six magnificent bedrooms: five with king beds (including some romantic four-posters) and all with ensuite bathrooms. The central kitchen and dining area is an architectural coup, with an indoor-outdoor mezzanine gallery living room that leads to a deck for viewing the glorious gardens (spot the collection of farm animals from a donkey to alpacas and more). Add a marquee on the sprawling lawns and you have the perfect setting for a memorable wedding.
The town centre with its vibrant shops and restaurants are a short walk from your front door.
