Walhalla is one of Australia’s best preserved gold mining towns. The entire village has been conserved and renewed to provide an incredible heritage experience, surrounded by lush rainforest. The most gorgeous place to stay in Walhalla is also the only original miners’ cottage available as accommodation.
Dating back to 1896, Walhalla Mill House is one of the most beautifully and recently renovated options, exuding a subtle blend of historic charm and new luxuries. Everything has been done with exquisite taste and an eye for colour and attention to detail (we love the bold use of red throughout the house).
The wood fire will keep you toasty warm, while the antique and vintage furniture lends an inviting ambience to the cosy lounge. The pressed metal walls in the bathroom are simply exquisite and we fell in love with the undercover al fresco dining area. This north-facing space has sensational views over the village to the mountains beyond.
There are a number of ways to enjoy Walhalla Mill House: self-catering, with breakfast provisions provided or with a full cooked breakfast at the owner’s other accommodation, Wild Cherry B&B. You can even order a chef-cooked dinner for the ultimate indulgence and Walhalla’s historic pub is a short walk away.
