Hunter Valley homesteadYou have to love a Hunter Valley place that has a specialised wine fridge in the kitchen. It’s just so in tune with the whole vibe of this valley. However, the thoughtfulness at Kinsale Cottage extends beyond providing an ideal place to park your cellar door treasures. There is play equipment for kids, a grand 10-seat dining table and a kitchen full of Smeg appliances for your holiday masterchef creations.
Owner Vanessa Edmondson has brought a very sure aesthetic sense to the whole design and layout of this ‘cottage’, which in reality is a large three-bedroom, two-bathroom house on a 110-acre property. She has used dark timber, white walls and red colour accents in throws, cushions and artwork to create a brilliantly integrated and warmly welcoming ambience. Kinsale has two large living areas, both equipped with flat-screen TVs and DVDs so the kids can have their own retreat while the grown-ups converse over local wine and cheese before the gas-log fire.
Two of the Hunter Valley’s best restaurants are in the neighbourhood: across the road, Andrew Clarke’s two-hat Rock Restaurant serves up an extraordinary Australian-French fusion and the award-winning Muse is a short drive away. Bon appétit!
