Sit back on the shady verandah, soak up the sweeping rural views and listen to nothing but the native birds as you allow yourself to totally unwind at Hope Cottage on Assmanshausen Winery (Queensland’s first winery). In this totally unpretentious setting, peace and quiet reign over an idyllic farm landscape.Hope Cottage is a fully self-contained two-bedroom weatherboard cottage with a big, comfortable lounge and sunroom. The hosts live on the property and can help out with sightseeing tips; and a tour of the heritage-listed sandstone winery with Bill is a must. Or, if you choose to be completely independent in your own private country retreat, the smell of a roast wafting out of the well-appointed country kitchen will have mouths watering.
Leslie Dam is great for a spot of fishing and, for those needing a fix of town life, nearby Warwick offers historic buildings and comprehensive shopping. The adorable farm dog Topsy is a major attraction (and minor star after playing an extra in the film Shadows of the Past, which was shot on the property). Plus, there’s abundant bird life and exquisite butterflies for loads of unique photo opportunities.
