Everyone loves basking in the echoes of Perth's early maritime history in Fremantle. And nowhere chimes with that history more than this heritage listed 19th-century home. It offers bed and breakfast rooms to guests seeking a window on the past – but with spotlessly modern facilities.The four guest rooms have sparkling ensuites (one has a spa). Host Sally-Anne Merrington lives in separate quarters, leaving guests to themselves in the B&B. But each morning a continental buffet breakfast is served in the conservatorystyle breakfast room, which opens up to balmy breezes in summer.
The location can not be bettered. Heritage Cottage is just 150 meters from the Indian Ocean at South Beach, perfect for a swim or a picnic on the lawns under the Norfolk pines. You can walk along the water's edge into Fremantle town, and restaurants and pubs are within 300 metres of the B&B. Allow three nights here to explore Fremantle properly: spend a day visiting Rottnest Island and two days roaming Fremantle.
There are the famous markets, the old goal, microbrewery pubs, cafes, art galleries and funky boutiques. Best of all, the free tourist bus leaves from the front door.
