Every city has its own historic architectural icons; prominent buildings that make you swoon at their elegant lines and craftsmanship of a bygone era. In Launceston, one of those such landmarks is Egremont. Built in 1904 for a wealthy businessman, Egremont’s architect was one of the first in Australia to feature the Art Nouveau style. The result is a classic mansion that has been exquisitely restored to reflect its unique standing in Launceston life, but also to provide lucky guests with every possible comfort. This is boutique accommodation with warmth and heritage, but without pretence.The other unique aspect about Egremont is the owners live elsewhere, so guests can enjoy the entire house to themselves. There’s the massive entrance and grand staircase, a gracious guest lounge
(the scene for the afternoon tea, port and cake service), a formal dining room (where staff serve a lovely full breakfast) and a reading room.
