How can we enjoy sensitive environments without blighting the natural beauty that attracts us in the first place? Eden Escape shows how. It combines timber, stone and slate in a Daintree National Park refuge that seems to have sprung from the 110 million-year-old rainforest around it.A brilliant open-plan design features this magical landscape from every picture window, appearing like vivid paintings on the rendered walls. Sea breezes cool the house and the water supply is pure Daintree rain. All the solar-powered comforts are modern including a full kitchen, lighting, television and DVD player. The inside-outside living will appeal to families and friends who like to slip from one activity to another, including enjoying the outdoor plunge bath that becomes a hot tub in the cooler months.
The gardens are subtly sympathetic to the World Heritage rainforest, meaning butterflies and birds are right at home near the house. Cape Tribulation is nearby and you can sea kayak, “jungle surf” in the forest canopy or visit the Daintree Entomological Museum’s astonishing butterfly collection. Plus there is parking for a car and boat.
