Luxurious Asian-inspired ocean view escape

We thought we had died and gone to East Coast Tasmania’s version of heaven when we arrived at Dragonfly Lodge. Perched on the side of Rocky Hills, this architect-designed masterpiece is sited to take full advantage of the extraordinary ocean views.

A complete wall of glass fronts the lodge and frames the Freycinet Peninsula before you – that’s Wineglass Bay straight ahead dotted with Schouten Island and the dramatic Hazards off to one side. The entire front section of the Lodge is given over to incredibly generous living spaces centred around a double-sided fireplace. On one side is the enormous lounge, complete with a double day bed. On the other, a line-up of armchairs to watch the world go by, a chef’s kitchen and a dining table begging for a local crayfish feast. Swansea is just up the road, so stock up on supplies before settling in.

But views are only one aspect of Dragonfly. The other is the sheer luxuriousness of the lodge. The floorboards are Russian oak, the furnishings and artwork exquisite (including many Asian antiques especially imported for the lodge) and there is even a range of bespoke Dragonfly toiletries. Add three indulgent bedrooms with king beds (or king singles) and their own beautiful ensuites and what you get is a spectacular slice of East Coast paradise.
