A plunge into CoogeeThree of Sydney’s great city beaches are Manly, Coogee and Bondi – and many people rate Coogee as the finest of them all. Why? Because it has fabulous sea baths like the theatrical Wylie’s and the women-only McGiver’s Ladies Baths. The main beach is sensational and there are streets full of little bars, takeaways and upmarket eateries. The must-stay place in Coogee is the funky boutique hotel Dive, which combines a straight-to-the-sea location with stylish design and a relaxed family-run vibe.
The guest rooms are alluring. They feature king or queen beds that are crisply set with fine linen sheets, opening windows to draw in the air and sunlight, kitchenettes, and totally hip bathrooms with little blue tiles, white grouting and stainless steel fittings. The primo rooms are numbers 1, 2 and 19, which look out to sea and offer their happy guests stunning sunrises and the soothing sounds of the waves. A complimentary continental breakfast is served in the communal dining area, which is a great place to swap tourist tips with your fellow travellers.
For families or a group of up to six, Dive has the three-bedroom Annexe townhouse around the corner. It has its own courtyard, full kitchen and lounge.
