The historic town of Auburn exemplifies the romance of the Clare Valley wine region and its former general store has now appropriately transformed into a foodies' haven called Cygnets. Owner Marjorie Moncrieff has conjured up a recipe for food lovers that melds 1800s charm, delicious food and delightful country cottage accommodation.Guests can choose from four suites (one in the cottage has its own lounge) and the cosy stables suites have spas; each has a wood fire and a quiet spot in the courtyard garden behind Cygnets' evocative cafe space. Breakfast is a delicious ritual: head to the cafe and indulge in Marjorie's continental buffet followed by a cooked course and brilliant coffee. But leave some room for lunch and a wine tasting before mounting a bike
to roam the country lanes of the Clare.
The highlight of any weekend stay at Cygnets is the Saturday night ‘La Masseria' long table dinner hosted by local foodie, Calabrian Nick Agostino. Start with a glass of Nick's own wine, followed by a food journey through Nick's Italian heritage cooking using local produce – much grown by Nick himself.
