Cradle Chalet lies at the edge of Tasmania’s Cradle Mountain wilderness. It’s an area of great natural beauty, with pristine World Heritage-listed National Parks, dramatic landscapes and tempestuous weather changes from clear blue skies to snowstudded countryside.

There’s the famous Cradle Mountain and Dove Lake to explore, as well as numerous wilderness walking tracks. Just driving around the area is breathtaking enough, with fortifying stops for wine, chocolate, honey and cheese tasting, as well as trout fishing, horse riding or perhaps a trip to the historic caves nearby.

And we aren’t the only ones to love this astonishing setting – the area’s abundant wildlife, including kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas and wombats, are obviously in on the secret judging by their sheer numbers.

Cradle Chalet is the perfect base to make the most of this wilderness experience. Choose from selfcontained log cabin chalets and deluxe spa suites – all with antiquestyle beds, a lounge area and private deck overlooking the rainforest.

It is well worth pre-booking dinner in the main lodge’s licensed dining room. Fresh local produce is used to conjure hearty dinners in front of the wood fire in the cooler months, and lighter Asian-inspired menus on warmer nights. Served on the open-air terrace overlooking the garden, this is the place to be.
