Harbour views with historyThe MasterChef TV program chose Cockatoo Island as the glamorous Sydney Harbour location to film the first weeks of the 2011 series. Lucky contestants – this is one of the most sensational island stays anywhere in Australia, facing the grand arch of the Harbour Bridge and surrounded by Sydney’s twinkling lights at night. The island has been part of the harbour city’s history since the 1830s, first as a prison for convicts doing hard labour and later as a shipyard.
The accommodation options are wonderfully diverse, ranging from a studio in the old Cockatoo Island fire station to a four-bedroom house once used by the chief medical officer. You can even go “glamping” in comfy permanent tents overlooking the harbour. We love the one- and two-bedroom luxury holiday houses where smart interior design perfectly melds the historic architecture with every modern comfort and views, views, views everywhere over glorious Sydney Harbour.
