Panoramic mountaintop retreatCloudsend beckons you to quit the city, move to Dorrigo and settle in to a cloistered life of meditation, novel writing, painting and cooking. The views from this cosy wooden farmhouse are utterly beguiling. On a clear day, you can see over the rainforested hills and far away to the distant ocean.
The house has an irresistible wrap-around verandah with a table and deckchairs for gazing, gossiping over coffee or settling in with a good book. In through the french door off the verandah is a dining room with its own bay window and more stunning views. The interior glories in the use of local timber, a spacious design and cathedral ceilings. Bedrooms are serene in the simplicity of their wooden furnishings and restful hues. Upstairs is a loft the kids will love, which is fitted with a dormer window daybed. A claw-foot bath complements the main bathroom.
Twitchers love Cloudsend for its inexhaustible supply of bird species including satin bowerbirds, wompoo fruit doves and peregrine falcons. Perhaps the birds love the sanctuary of Cloudsend’s 22 hectares, which include Open Garden-feted English hedge gardens and a pond. If you must leave, Dorrigo is a 10-minute drive away for the papers, supplies or a pub meal.
