Cable Station Restaurant and Accommodation
Stanley
Review by Beautiful Accommodation
The northwest corner of Tasmania is often compared to Piedmont in Italy – both are considered the food bowl of their region, supplying mouth-watering morsels from passionate producers. But we think the Stanley region has one big advantage – the incredible seafood from Bass Strait, which elevates thisarea to one of the top food producing regions of the world.
Luckily for anyone staying at Cable Station – and Stanley for that matter – owner and chef Charlotte Brown embraces a “paddock and ocean to plate” philosophy, resulting in Gourmet Traveller-recommended dinners in her inviting restaurant. We especially love Charlotte’s quarterly slow food long lunches; they fill quickly so book early to enjoy her convivial Tassie food and wine pairings. While the food is all about fresh, local and seasonal produce, the accommodation options are refreshingly different and historically significant. Starting life as a telecommunications centre (the old telegraph command is a feature of the three-bedroom Technician’s Cottage), Cable Station is now a tranquil country estate with cows for neighbours and inspiring views across green paddocks to the water beyond.
As well as the self-contained cottages, there are two suites perfect for couples each with a private terrace. Cable Station is a must-do for foodie couples and friends travelling together.
