Brunswick Heads pleasure pavilions

It's easy to see why Brunswick Pavilions won the Master Builders Association Excellence in Regional Building Awards 2010 for this stunning renovation. It combines architectural ingenuity with superb artisanship and pitch-perfect styling to make a holiday space that works brilliantly. There are two pavilions here - Mango Tree and Bamboo Grove - which can be taken separately (each sleeps up to four people) or together for a laid-back reunion of friends or family.

Mango Tree and Bamboo Grove are nearly identical in layout and appointments, so there won't be any arguments about who has the better place. Each is dashingly decorated with splashes of red, polished wooden floorboards and plenty of space to lounge around. The kitchens are fully equipped with everything from coffee makers to dishwashers and there is a laundry for salty, sandy clothes. Each has a 42-inch plasma TV with an SD card slot so that you can check out your holiday photos whenever you like. The uniting element is an eight-metre pool and a brilliant sundeck that connects the two pavilions.

Brunswick Heads is a wonderful secret. Rather like Byron in its early days, perhaps it is Byron's quiet cousin - close to the action, but hidden away. This is the ideal family entertainer.
