Boonooloo Beach House is a design by the famed North Queensland luxury home architect, Chris Vandyke, and it is clear she relishes her beachfront location. It’s right on the water’s edge with views across the bay to cosmopolitan Port Douglas. Boonooloo means “surrounded by water”, and everything about her design celebrates this absolute beachfront setting.Boonooloo’s interior perfectly suits the climate and vibe of Newell Beach: open-plan with high ceilings and plenty of discrete spaces to soak up the tropical glow at different times of the day. In typical Vandyke style, the house brilliantly employs timber and glass to frame the surrounding land and seascapes, bringing the outside up close. The infinity wet edge pool is just 20 paces from the water’s edge so it’s your choice about whether to lounge on a chair or swing in a hammock under the shade of a palm tree. When you need to wash off the sand and sun lotion, you’ll covet the natural marble bathrooms.
Families will love Boonooloo but we can also picture it as the perfect spot for a group of girlfriends or a guys’ hideaway. It is also the ultimate venue for a honeymoon or special occasion – the oceanfront deck can seat up to 60.
