This property is thanks to two ex-Sydneysiders who have a chic, city sensibility and a passionate respect for the history of this evocative 1860 grain store. The Bluestone Grain Store is a stunning example of how a sympathetic and clever renovation can transform an imposing relic into a contemporary yet historic retreat in Tasmania's historic Deloraine.
No expense has been spared to bring this building back to life and we love the fact the timber trusses, beams and even the original lifting wheel in the top storey have been kept to highlight the structure’s industrial pedigree. What has been added is simply exquisite. The four bedrooms and ensuites are beautiful and the furniture is a mix of the bespoke, made from rare Tasmanian timbers and antiques. There are also some surprisingly modern features. We love the projector movie room with its row
of restored seats rescued from the local theatre.
Downstairs is a vast relaxing room complete with wood fire, a pool table and piano. It’s also where guests enjoy a fabulous breakfast using fresh local produce served on delicate white Wedgewood (we loved the
omelette with wild mushrooms and grana padano) and accompanied by the perfect espresso. The beans are sent weekly by the owners’ barista daughter in Sydney.
