Privacy and luxury in one

Innovative design and a dazzling location just three kilometres from historic Stanley make Beachside Retreat one of our favourite adults-only Tasmanian escapes. This is creative, contemporary eco-architecture at its luxurious best. And with two kilometres of private, absolute beachfront land, to high-water mark, it makes for a very indulgent couple's escape.
There are just four eco-cabins and lodges perched on the sand dunes amongst the coastal vegetation, each with a sensational outlook to the wide, white sandy beach below and West Inlet beyond. All cabins are designed exclusively for couples. A larger farm-style lodge, set in a beachside garden, caters for a further two couples, plus an additional single.
This is all about beachcombing, swimming or fishing in the lagoon-like ocean. You can even gather fresh wild oysters from the rocks for breakfast. At night, enjoy a dip in the heated, saltwater pool, under a starlit sky, or relax in the large outdoor spa with friends. Absolutely magical!
At Beachside Retreat, expect stylish design with bespoke rare-timber furniture, fully equipped kitchens and private decks making the most of that gorgeous view. The two deluxe eco-cabins are compact dune-top options, while the more spacious luxury lodges feature those breathtaking vistas from every room. They are all eye-poppingly impressive but our favourite is the ‘Sea Eagle’, with its private hot tub overlooking the beach.

Chris and Janette, formerly from the UK, are wonderful hosts who will make sure your stay on their beautiful property is a special experience. The stunning location of these cabins and lodges would make the perfect setting for a romantic honeymoon or an intimate beach wedding.

Please note: this is an adults-only property.

We travelled to Tasmania to plan a 2 week holiday for a group of 15 couples driving old sports cars. We drove over 700kms the first day and 800 kms the third but in between had a 2 night 1 day stay at Beachside Retreat - what bliss. The weather was kind so we enjoyed the spa in the sand dunes, walks around the lovely local town of Stanley and on the beach near the Retreat and the intriguing local wildlife. Chris and Janette were wonderful hosts with advice before our trip about the best places to eat, the need for careful driving after dark (to avoid the intriguing wildlife) and had answers for any of our other queries, We cant recommend this retreat as a great place to stay for those who are look for a complete rest.

We stayed here for 3 nights in March 2014. It was a great way to end our three week trip around Tassie. We really enjoyed our wonderful cabin and the serenity of the location. The cabins are very unique in the way they are designed and positioned well in relation to each other offering maximum privacy. The Retreat is close to the quaint town of Stanley so you can enjoy all it has to offer, but still have lots of peace and quiet. The inlet views are wonderful and the hosts are very gracious. We definitely would return if we ever make it back to Tasmania.

We stayed 4 nights in March 2014. This is our second time and we enjoyed it just as much as the first time. We booked the Sea Eagle with the spa. We had a fantastic time. The Cabin was spacious, spotlessly clean, and private. The breakfast hamper was lovely, with so much on offer. It is a very relaxing, peaceful place to stay. A short trip to the historic township of Stanley where they sell the best curried scallop pies. The beach is pristine and private and you can walk for miles and not see another person. We thorougly enjoyed our stay and only wish we could have stayed longer. Thank you for a wonderful experience. We stayed in the Sea Eagle which had a private spa in the sand dunes. It was amazing! We spent a week at the Beachside Retreat West Inlet and used it as our base to explore the west coast of Tassie. The worst part of the experience was having to leave. Friendly staff, great facilities, easy walk to the beach and a great base to explore from regardless of how far or wide you wished to travel. Would certainly stay again on our next trip and would recommend it to anyone who wishes a pleasant stay in this woundful part of the world.

This was our 2nd visit to Beachside Retreat, this time it was just the two of us, we stayed in the Sea Eagle Luxury Nature Eco Cabin with spa. The cabin was lovely and clean, very stylish, great views over the inlet with an array of birds and wildlife. The BBQ is a great asset, the kitchen has all mod cons the spa is an added bonus my husband loved sitting in it at dusk with a beer watching the beautiful sunsets. Bed is comfortable, huge windows looking out at the garden, every window has a view. Such a great place to unwind, just relax read whatever. There are lots to see and do in the area. The owners Janette and Chris are wonderful hosts, there is also WIFI, so you can catch up on emails etc in the reception area.

Our family group of six, which included the in-laws had two fantastic nights at BeachsideRetreat staying in the Lodge. On its own, away from the cabins we felt totally self-contained in this well appointed building. The two main bedrooms were of a good size with very comfortable beds, the kitchen was well equipped and the lounge/ diner ideal for watching the TV after our days out. The lap pool and spa got a big thumbs up from young and old alike. We had our own deck looking out onto the Inlet with its pelicans and oystercatchers; which was a great place to start the morning. The cabins also looked super when Janette suggested I have a look at that part of the property, which was alive with pademelons at dusk. A great place to stay both close to Stanley and the Nut and also handy for Smithton and the Arthur River cruise. We certainly plan to return in the not too distant future!!

Stanley was our last stay before leaving Tasmania and we could not have stayed at a more perfect place than Beachside Retreat. Our beach 'shack' named 'The Sea Eagle' was delightfully innovative in its design, beautifully appointed with bespoke furniture and a mere step away from the sandy beach. Great views onto the beach from large picture windows, a large verandah equipped with a bar-b-cue for cooking those local crayfish and an outdoor spa where we could relax and stargaze while admiring the waves, very hard to beat all this!

We loved the two nights we had at Sandpiper ecocabin. The setting is wonderful, the decor is unique and everything we needed for our comfort was provided. Our hosts Janette and Chris were most welcoming. The tour into the Tarkine Forest with Chris was most enjoyable with every effort made to ensure we had a memorable excursion.

We stayed for 5 nights in Oystercatcher a 1 bedroom Eco Cabin over the Christmas period. Chris & Janette were fantastic hosts and we enjoyed Christmas drinks with them and the other guests on Christmas morning. Accommodation is beautifully fitted out and very comfortable. We were seconds from the beach and enjoyed long beach walks and sitting back on our deck watching the birdlife and local wildlife. We will definitely be back for another visit.

We stayed at Beachside Retreat West Inlet for 3 nights of a 25 night trip to Tassie. As I booked the accommodation on line myself, my husband was very impressed with the quality of the accommodation. Our cabin "Sandpiper" was fantastic - I am sure all cabins at Beachside Retreat are equally so. Sandpiper is a luxury private stand-alone unit with private beach access and perfectly situated for touring the North West coast of Tasmania. It added a special touch to drive past the beautiful brown cattle as we drove into the property. Many tours can be booked through the owners and we could have stayed a week or longer. We loved it. We visited Dismal Swamp and the Arthur River, climbed the Nut and had several dinners at Xanders at Stanley.

I stayed in the 'Pelican' retreat for a week in February 2013. I'd been looking for somewhere to get away from everything and everyone for a little while as my life had been truly hectic and emotionally draining. My wish list for accommodation included: being stylish; suitable for one person; air conditioned; self-contained; private; and being in a serene location. Beachside Retreat West Inlet met all of these things when searching on-line (a surprisingly few places ticked all boxes). Pleasingly the retreat was even better than expected. The solitude I so wanted was provided in spades! The Architect responsible for the design of the 'Pelican' retreat should be congratulated for creating such a beautiful space to relax in by yourself. Plus Janette and Chris couldn’t have been less obtrusive if they tried. It really felt like I had a piece of the world to myself for the week such was the rarity of seeing another person (I only encountered one other guest on my daily walks on the amazingly beautiful private beach). I honestly came away feeling refreshed and reenergized. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending this retreat to people who want to get away from their lives for a while.

We stayed in 'Pelican' and could not see or hear the other cabins, the beach was a short stroll and mostly deserted, it really felt like we were the only people on the planet at times and was just the kind of break we really needed. The cabin was spotlessly clean, well thought out and simply beautiful. We spent one afternoon and evening sitting on the verandah just watching the ever-changing West Inlet as the sun set over the is just a magical place. Many thanks to Karen for looking after us and to Janette for keeping an eye, the perfect balance of friendly attentiveness and being left in peace to enjoy. I would highly recommend this retreat to anyone looking for a real escape, it was so relaxing we didn't want to leave.

The place is simply amazing. Calm, soothing, relaxing and worth all the money. The facilities are up to the mark and the overall experience is something I have never felt before. A must visit place.
