Headland of contentMerimbula is one of our favourite coastal towns. It has a dazzling combination of lakes, surf beaches and bushland. It also supports a vibrant local foodie culture that relishes serving up plates of fresh flathead, local beef, cheeses and creams from nearby Bega, and fat oysters from Pambula. That all makes it well worth the trip from Sydney or Melbourne to stay in Bantry1villa, which is in town’s premier residential precinct and overlooks the whole glorious spectacle.
Bantry1 is thoroughly adaptable, with three king-size bedrooms, all with ensuites. You can take the top floor as a couple or the whole place as a group of six. The owners Marion and Tony Carden are avid spotters of emerging artists and the walls of Bantry1 are a testament to their taste and discernment. It all creates a wonderfully fresh and vibrant holiday mood. The lounge is a favourite spot with sensational sea views, richly stained floorboards and comfy sofas to seat your whole crew.
The location is Merimbula-perfect, overlooking the old wharf and aquarium, which has a sunny, sheltered restaurant (ideal for a chocolaty morning cappuccino with the papers). The gorgeous – and child-friendly – Bar Beach is a short stroll down the cliff.
