Armytage House
Bagdad (Near Hobart)
Review by Beautiful Accommodation
Tasmania is lucky to have so many well-retained buildings from the early 1800s, and travellers can experience their own luxurious slice of this heritage at Armytage House.Built as a barn in the 1830s for the wealthy George Armytage (whose descendents went on to own Melbourne’s Como House), today Armytage House is an extraordinary place to stay. It combines the craftsmanship of quality colonial stonework and a grand modern extension befitting the barn’s impressive proportions.
The result is a beautiful open area with ceilings over 20 feet high, allowing for a mezzanine bedroom in the original space. There is also a bedroom and bathroom extension that have been added to create a harmonious flow from the barn. We love the polished terrazzo floors in the extension, plus the double spa bath in the huge bathroom.
There’s a real feeling of welcome here: the lavish breakfast provisions, exquisite furnishings and extensive gardens all invite guests to make their stay a long one. Cooks will love the full kitchen, the outdoor undercover wood-fi red pizza oven and outdoor open fireplace – the perfect spot for a long al fresco meal after a day touring the region. Just 35 minutes from Hobart, it’s the perfect base for your next Southern Tassie holiday.

Absolutely beautiful! We had a lovely three days at Armytage House, the accommodation itself is stunning and cosy, with lovely fruit laden apple trees, outdoor pizza oven and fire place to give it that extra touch. Hobart was only 30mins away, so we were
perfectly positioned for day trips. The breakfast provisions were delicious. Loved it and we can't wait to go back.
