Waterfront dreamtime bliss

What makes a perfect Sydney escape? We suggest that one version has to include absolute waterfrontage, a private pontoon for fishing or boating, breathtaking water views, exotic birdlife, sea breezes, and places to eat and shop within easy reach. If that fits your picture, Alcheringa will too. Its apt name means 'dreamtime' in Aboriginal dialect.

There are two options here. The Retreat is a fully self-contained, ground-floor apartment with everything you need for a longer holiday including laundry facilities, a queen-size bed, ensuite and walk-in robe, and space to lounge and breathe in the view. Then there is the Studio, which has one of the finest bedroom views of Port Hacking you are likely to see. You can cook a meal in the kitchenette, throw some steaks on the barbecue in the garden or pop off to nearby Cronulla to sample the many local cafes, bars and restaurants. What a pleasure it is to slip back to this private retreat after a day of adventure.

A real treat at Alcheringa is the astonishing birdlife, which includes kookaburras, rosellas, sulphur-crested cockatoos and pelicans. There are three golf courses nearby and you can reach the airport without trawling across the city.
