Built in the 1870s for Dr Frederick Quaife, the Hughenden lay neglected for many years until the visionary Gervay sisters peeked over its high fence and imagined the possibilities. With a respectful nod to the past and lots of consideration for future guests, Susanne and Elizabeth restored the building to its gracious past glory. Today, the award-winning literary hotel is a vibrant hub for culture, music and the arts.
An old-fashioned welcome awaits guests who can select from 36 unique rooms. With a choice that includes cosy boudoirs, family retreats and the exceptional Manor Suite (the original master bedroom), you can be assured of finding the perfect fit for your visit. And with dedicated pet-friendly rooms (with private atrium or courtyard) and an exclusive doggy-dining area there is no need to fret about your beloved pet – just bring them with you.
Make sure to find the time to explore the Hughenden's galleries, enjoy weekend dinners at Quaife's restaurant (with a baby grand accompaniment) or seat yourself by the fireplace for Sunday afternoon high tea in winter. Location: 5km or 10 minutes southeast of Sydney CBD. RA 22 F6.
Facilities: 36 rooms: King Deluxe, Queen, and smaller rooms. All with ensuite (some with baths), AC, ceiling fans, TV. Reading room, conservatory, guest lounge, off-street parking, restaurant. Function/conference facilities. Full breakfast served.
