One has to question how much better boutique accommodation in Australia can get, given the standard set by Nimbo Fork Lodge, which opened after seven years of planning in 2007. Nimbo styles itself as a luxury fishing lodge – and yes indeed it is, from the custom-made fly-fishing drift boats to the trout ponds for year-round sport – but Nimbo Fork offers much more. Even if you don't know a gullet from a gill, this superb lodge will wrap you up in luxury and fine cuisine and have you utterly relaxed by the time you leave.
Like all the best follies, Nimbo is the realisation of a dream – in this case, that of trout fisherman and retired financial markets guru Chris Fehon. After a career spent staying at the very best hotels, he has pulled it all together in a dream location for fishing fanatics and their friends. There are just six lodge rooms and six private cabins, each opulently furnished right down to the Egyptian cotton sheets.
Everything is included in the tariff, even the gourmet meals featuring the best local produce. There's nowhere else like it. Location: 410km or five hours southwest of Sydney. RA 34 D1.
Facilities: Six lodge rooms and six cabins all with queen or twin single, ensuite, RC AC, internet; cabins also with gas log fire, bath and large balcony with river views. Lodge lounge (log fire), dining, billiards room and lodge store. Fishing gear. All meals included in rate. Visit this property's website
